FAQ
What does Ginseng do?
Ginseng is one of the most complex plants studied and its unique active ingredients know as gensenosides appear in different balances depending on the plants growing conditions and age. There are basically 14 different gensenosides and they can be roughly split in half on what they do in the body.
Half are what the Chinese call heating or yang and these are the stimulating ones that have been often prescribed for men and those wanting that ginseng rush often identified with the plant in modern marketing materials This balance is found in Asian ginseng that has been grown under cultivation and is the most common type of Ginseng in todays marketplace.
The other half of the gensenosides are what are identified as cooling or yin and are the key active ingredients in balancing todays overheated lifestyles. These are the type found in American Ginseng, grown under cultivation and in our new ginseng program.
Science is in agreement that balance and stress reduction are a major keys to a healthful body and long life. 5,000 years of Chinese medicine shows that the use of Ginseng can be part of a way to reduce stress and reach that balanced, healthier, longer life.
American Ginseng?
I thought ginseng came from Asia?
The Ginseng plant family (araleace) is one of the oldest on the planet traced back millions of years to when (Pangaea) or the single land mass of earth existed. As the continents drifted apart over the millennia the plant found itself adapting to growing in different conditions and in this process evolved into primarily two ginseng cousins, which have been identified as different medicines, each having its place in todays modern pharmacopeia of medicinal herbs.
Today over 20 different plants are often identified as GINSENG, mostly to take advantage of the names marketing advantages. Science recognizes that there are two primary cousin plants of what is commonly called Ginseng that are identified as having the active ingredients that do what real ginseng does.. The Asian, panax ginseng has been used for over 5,000 years and is prescribed mostly for older men. It is revered as The King of Herbs in the Chinese pharmacopeia. Its lesser-known American cousin panax quinquifolium, is now The Ginseng of Choice for women and stress reduction in China.
Ginseng and Women!
We cannot talk about Ginseng for women with out dispelling the often-conveyed misinformation about is Ginseng safe for use by women? This question arises from thousands of years of Chinese medicinal practice with mostly Asian ginseng for mens tonic. Even today Asian Ginseng, panax ginseng, is only prescribed for women in rare cases.
However its American cousin, panax quinquefolium, historically was used by Native Americans like the Cherokee and Iroquois for Womens Issues hundreds of years before the Europeans visited this continent. Further, since its first cultivation and export to China over 150 years ago. American Ginseng has now become the #1 Ginseng of choice in Asia and used now not only by men but the growing populations of working and professional Asian women. As the Asian culture changes into a modern society, what was once denied women because of class and cost (American Ginseng in Asia can sell for hundreds of dollars per pound), is now consumed to the point where 90-95% of our entire American Ginseng crop is exported to Asia at present. A trend we believe will change when American women and men discover the benefits of this locally grown and most prized herb.
Not all American Ginseng is what it says it is!
Why 100% Wisconsin American Ginseng
As we stated the active ginsenosides that are present in Ginseng differ in quantities and type depending on the genius: American/Asian, age, soil, environment & growing methods used. The 100% Wisconsin American Ginseng used in my new AllAmerican Ginseng product line by Ginseng Strategies is not only the same type of American Ginseng used in the Mayo clinic in their recent studies, but also in many others in progress. Grown in the rolling hills of Wisconsin a prime native ginseng habitat, it is the one of the oldest types of US cultivated ginseng being grown. From my research and experience I find that Cultivated American Ginseng can vary in its active ingredients depending on where it was grown with some not even having enough to do what ginseng does in the body. Due to this variance I have worked with a company that I have know for almost thirty years that buys its ginseng exclusively from the Wisconsin Ginseng Growers Association to source my materials in the 100% Wisconsin American Ginseng product I sell.
