Vol.4 Ginseng:The Yang of It -My Story

Twenty-nine years ago on July 4th, 1980, I reunited with a friend in a small town in upstate NY and asked him what he was doing?

He said, Im about to grow some ginseng

I said, What the,!@#$ is Ginseng?

(A question I now have been asked thousands of times since!)

So my travels down the road to discovering 5,000 years of this King of Herbs history and use began!

That summer I found myself on the side of a very steep Catskill Mountain each day planting little ginseng seeds between rocks and eating some root. Soon, I discovered even though working harder than I ever had, my sleep-refreshment cycle was getting shorter and I had more energy! Could it be the Ginseng? I started sharing roots with those that would eat them and they too reported similar findings. I started making wild ginseng extracts for us all to use and soon my first ginseng venture was begun.

Shortly after beginning that venture, I meet a young Chinese-American in the ginseng trade who began to pay us large sums of money for our local wild ginseng roots. Today he is still one of my closest friends and now owner of the worlds largest Chinese-American Ginseng Product and Trading Companies. My simple question to him was,Why did all those Chinese want our ginseng and why are they willing to pay so much for it? His response was, Steve thats something you will really know when you are a 100 and look back!

Profound, yes, but at my young age at the time very perplexing!

Ginseng Strategies

Now, looking back, at age 59, twenty-nine years of ginseng use and research later, I am beginning to understand what my Chinese-American friend was talking about as others have noticed it in me also.
